As we head into the 9th year a.k.a. 2022!

Eight years…. Has it really been eight years since I created this blog? Apparently.

I remember sitting down to write that first post clearly.  (In case you’re a little late to the party, here’s the link to it  Deep Breaths and Begin | Coral McCallum)

I remember the fear more than anything else. Would anyone want to read my blog? Would I be able to sustain posting once a week? What if I made a total fool of myself? What if folk laughed at me for creating a blog?

Every insecurity in the book was rattling through me!

Now, as I sit here eight years down the line, on the cusp of a new year, many of these insecurities are still rattling through me. Yes, I am still scared to let people read what I write. Yes, I do still fret about whether anyone would want to read what I write. Every time I hit “publish” on a blog post, a wave of fear crashes through me- some are little gentle waves; others are the kind surfers would die to ride.

When I started my blog, my first book baby was still in its early stages. At that time, having my name on the cover of a book still felt like an impossible dream but, here we are, six books later and with number seven on the way. (Yes, I know I’ve been saying that for months but it’s coming! Hopefully, it’s coming in Autumn 2022. No, I’m not quite ready to reveal its name…not yet.)

This blog has evolved over the years too, hopefully for the better. I’ve kept my word. I’ve posted at least once a week every week. (OK a few of those were “cheat” blogs that were barely more than a photo and a few words when life’s been a tad manic, and I don’t promise that there won’t be more of those to come.)  If you’ve missed a few posts, they are all still there. (You can find them all in the Archives on the right.) The tabs along the top of the page split out the poems and short stories from the rest of the ramblings and the shop tab speaks for itself. (Hint…check it out if you’ve not read the Silver Lake series or Ellen.) There are even a few author newsletters too.

This year, I bit the bullet and changed the domain to www.coralmccallum.co.uk That was a bit of a surreal moment – I’m a .co.uk! LOL

I also created a podcast version of a selection of my blog posts. Missed that?  Here’s the link Coral McCallum – indie author and blogger • A podcast on Anchor (No, its not my voice reading them you’ll be glad to hear!)

As I have chased my dreams and pursued this creative journey, perhaps I’ve evolved too.  I’ll leave that thought there….

So, what will 2022 hold? After the “delights” of the past two years, I’m almost scared to ask! I think I want to read the T’s & C’s carefully before I sign up to 2022!

What I do know though is that it will bring more blog posts, introduce you to more characters, showcase more photographic efforts and continue my musings and meandering as I chase those rainbows and dreams.

To all of you, especially those loyal souls who have been with me since the start, thank you from the bottom of my heart for continuing to support my creative pursuits. I couldn’t do it without you. Your kind words, the “likes” on my author Facebook page (Coral McCallum | Facebook), the reviews of my book babies on Amazon and Good Reads, they all help to fuel the fires of creativity.

All that’s left to say is all the best for 2022 when it arrives. May it be kind to us all. Stay safe.

Love n hugs

I will write 500 blogs…..

When I posted the most recent part of my Silently Watching story, WordPress sent me a notification.

It was my 500th blog post!

WOW! How did that happen?

It feels like a lifetime ago when I sat down and wrote then posted my first blog back at the end of 2013.  Missed it – here’s the link December | 2013 | Coral McCallum (wordpress.com)

My New Year’s Resolution for 2014 was to post at least once a week to my new blog page and I’ve somehow managed to stick to it for over seven years.

The creative journey has wound its way steadily through the pages and although it took me until 15 April 2015 to finally publish my debut novel, Stronger Within, I am now six books in and working on the seventh. Stronger Within’s “birth” will always hold a special place in my heart. Stronger Within —-the dream’s come true! | Coral McCallum (wordpress.com)

My confidence has grown since those early blog posts (although I still get anxious about posting some articles) and over the years I have self-disclosed on a few topics. I’ve shared my innermost thoughts with you. I’ve shared poetry and fiction. I’ve introduced you to several fellow indie authors. I’ve tested the creative waters and introduced you to my characters to gauge the reaction. I’ve shared some hopefully interesting facts. I’ve shared my photography with you too.

And you know what? I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.

Writing for me, weaving that story, is my escape from this crazy real world we all live in. It’s become like oxygen to me, and I need to write to keep going.

So that said, I’ve a book to write and hopefully many more blog posts to share with you.

None of this would be possible without you though.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for supporting the first 500 blogs!

Love n hugs

Happy 5th Blogiversary To Me

5 balloon.png

Happy 5th Anniversary to me… well, to my blog to be more precise.

I still remember the nerves as I hit “publish” on that very first blog post

I’d like to say that those nerves have eased considerably over the years… but I’d be lying. There is still that wave of panic as I hit “publish” every week although it is not quite the tidal wave it  once was.

My original challenge/goal was to post one blog piece per week in an effort to overcome the fear of letting people read what I write. It’s a goal I’ve met consistently ever since (OK there has been the occasional “cheat” blog along the way).

The first proper blog that I shared was very personal to me.

and over the past five years there have been a few very personal blogs shared. They are the hardest to publish …. I’m not very comfortable exposing my soul in public.

I’ve shared poems, short stories and photos. (Watch this space on 31st December if you like vampire angels…. Hint….)

I’ve also shared the birth of my book babies…all 4 of them!

If you’d told me on 29 December 2013, when I created this blog, that five years down the line I’d be writing an anniversary post like this and calling out that I have published four novels via KDP/CreateSpace that have earned 5 star ratings on Amazon.co.uk plus ratings on Amazon.com and GoodReads, I’d have said you were delusional. Insane even. However….

That’s exactly what has happened. I still find it all very surreal.

The last five years have been an incredible journey. Yes, there have been many times when I have faltered along this creative path that I am travelling but the love and support of everyone who reads my blog, reads my poems, my short stories and my books has kept me going. I honestly couldn’t do it without you all, especially my Infamous Five (you know who you are).

So, what’s next?

In keeping with this 5 theme – book baby 5 hopefully! Who would’ve have dared to dream that I’d ever be saying that! And more weekly blog musings.

Thank you for sharing this road with me and here’s to travelling many more blog miles together as the journey continues.

Love n hugs

Has It Really Been Three Years?

291216-3yr-blogiversaryI find it hard to believe but it has been three years since I started this blog.

I remember the fear and trepidation that I felt as I pressed “publish” on that very first post as if it were yesterday.

I largely started this blog to overcome my fear of people reading what I write and I think I’ve perhaps finally  conquered it. (I still get a flutter of nerves in the pit of my stomach as I hit “publish”)

Three years down the line I’ve kept up with my weekly blog posts on here, created a sister music blog, The 525 To Glasgow, written and published two book babies with a third due in the Spring. Add in the various short stories that have appeared on this page and, I think you’ll agree, it’s been a busy three years.

I couldn’t have done it without you.

It’s the love and support of each and every one of you that has kept me searching for rainbows and  chasing my  dreams so thank you.
