An Acrostic Poem for Mental Health Awareness Week 15-23 May 2023 – Anxiety

Another sleepless night

Nausea sweeping through me

Xanax sitting untouched on the nightstand

I will beat this

Every movement’s an effort

Teeth even ache in my jaws

Yesterday still torturing my mind

If you can relate to this short poem, please don’t suffer in silence. There are numerous resources out there to support. I’ll list a few below.

Everyone has mental health, the same way, everyone has physical health and like your physical health, sometimes its in better shape than others. It’s ok not to be ok.

Trust (an acrostic poem)

Trust should be cherished, never taken for granted.

Respect has to be earned then sustained.

Use your judgement wisely- once gone, they’re gone forever.

Spend a few extra moments in contemplation….

Think about the cost of blowing apart either or both…

Blank…

What are you hiding,

In those empty lined depths?

New worlds waiting to be revealed.

Old worlds waiting to be revisited.

Young love ripe to for exploration

Relationships that bloom,

Then wither through time.

Goodbyes to be said.

Laughter to light up the world.

Tears silently being shed.

A myriad of possibilities beckon

As I pick up my pen.

The writer’s blank canvas awaits.

At The End Of The Day (poetry blog)

At the end of the day

As I watch the sun sink lower in the sky

I sigh…

It’s a weary sigh.

At the end of the day

As the sun’s warmth fades away

I sigh…

It’s a weary sigh.

At the end of the day

As the shadows lengthen around me

I sigh…

It’s a weary sigh.

At the end of the day

As night wraps around me like a cloak

I sigh…

It’s a weary sigh.

At the end of the day

As I watch the moonrise in clear night sky

I sigh…

It’s a weary sigh

At the end of the day

As I settle down to sleep til dawn

I sigh…

It’s a weary sigh.

Tomorrow’s always another day…

Toadstools – an acrostic poem

Treading carefully among the trees, I search

October brings fairytales alive – if you take the time to look

Autumn leaves nestle round them, keeping them safe

Delicate gills on display

Spores drifting invisibly down to populate the soil

Tomorrow’s tales or next year’s? Time will tell.

Old haunts from previous years reveal this year’s crop

Old memories haunt the hunt

Lost in my daydreams

Searching for that fairytale ending

Berries – an acrostic poem

Blood red you hang in the sun

Enchantingly autumnal in colour

Reminding me that summer has passed

Reminding me that seasons change

Indicators of cooler days and darker nights

Emotionally I’m not ready for those…not yet

Selfishly I want to hold onto the warmth and the light a little longer

September – an acrostic poem

Summer’s end in sight

Ever hopeful of some late sunshine

Preparing for a colourful autumn

Trees changing colour before your eyes

Early sunsets create fiery skies

Memories of long light nights fading

Beginning to dread winter’s dark chill

Emotions in turmoil as the seasons change

Remembering…always remembering…

Sunrise – the beauty of a brand new day no matter where you are

Following on from last week’s Sunset blog, I thought I’d share Sunrise with you.

I’ll let you in on a little secret. I watch the sun rise more or less every day at my favourite beach in the USA thanks to the talents of several photographers and the wonders of Facebook.

Those few moments of calm, watching the sky light up and the waves wash in provide a precious moment of tranquility.

One day, when the time is right and the planets align, I will sit on that beach and watch that sunrise for myself. Until then, this short poem inspired by those wonderful videos and photos will need to suffice.

Sitting on the soft cool sand waiting watching

Until the sun crests the horizon to the east

Never tiring of the colours of a new day

Reflecting on the past

Imagining the future

Seeking solace in the early morning calm

Emptying my mind of past pain and heartache

Choosing a photo to accompany this blog was hard. There are so many stunning ones to choose from.

If you want to check out sunrise for yourself then here’s a few links to choose from

Each of these photographers is super talented. Who know, perhaps our paths will cross on the beach one morning.

Sunset – an acrostic poem

Silently sinking below the horizon

Unseen by those who choose not to look

Nature’s beauty for all to enjoy

Streaking a pallet of colours across the evening skies

Ever-changing diminishing light amending the tones

Taking the stresses and strains of today away.

As I Meander (poem)

As I meander, I listen

Listen to the birds singing

The waves washing in on the shore

The wind in the trees

The daydreams in my mind.

As I meander, I watch

Watch the traffic pass me by

Watch for the car I hope to see

I listen for the engine approach

But the familiar growl remains unheard.

As I meander, I watch and listen

Watch the people who pass me by

Watch to see if it’s the friendly face I seek

Listen to the footsteps approach from behind.

But the familiar tread remains unheard.

As I meander, I watch and listen and daydream.
